For over 30 years Te Whare Roimata Trust is working with Christchurch’s Inner City East and Urban Māori communities.

Our Work is Grassroots - Treaty-based - Bi-Cultural

Community Centre for the inner city east and surrounding neighbourhoods providing grassroot, self-help responses to the issues and concerns of local people. A range of activities and services has been developed including Maori cultural advice and awhi, neighbourhood support and outreach, a twice weekly play group, budget and benefit advice, information and advocacy, a weekly neighbourhood cafe, a low cost shifting and household services to people on low incomes, the Linwood Community Arts Centre and the Community Gardens project at Surrey and Smith Streets

Projects

The heart of our work is to enable people to find expression for their skills and talents.  We do this through whānau development and providing tūrangawaewae – places for residents to stand tall.

Te Whare Roimata’s Current Projects are located across:

  • Smith Street Garden

  • Linwood Community Arts Centre – Eastside Gallery

  • Stanmore Road Post Office & Books

  • Under the Tin Roof Op Shop

  • Tiny Shops Village
